HELLAS WELCOMED WITH OPEN ARMS BY SMG IN GERMANY

Despite the economic downturn in Europe, Hellas Construction and SMG secured a $3.3 Million (2.9 Million Euros) deal, which was the largest in the Voehringen company’s 44-year history. Hellas President Reed J. Seaton visited Voehringen, Germany for this historic moment and said, “what is done here is simply fantastic and I am impressed with the technical know-how of SMG.”

Hellas has worked with SMG or Sports Field Machine Construction for over 30-years. Hellas was originated to fill a unique need in the marketplace combining both construction services with sports surfacing. Hellas controls the entire supply chain from design, construction, manufacturing, and installation of sports surfaces including after the sale services for sports facilities and stadiums all across the United States.

SMG was founded in 1975 by Johann B. Owegeser. Today the factory is run by Tobias Owegeser, Markus Owegeser and Daniel Owegeser. During their first year in business, SMG came up with the predecessor of today’s Plano-Matic-Series, made for installations of sports pavements of all kinds, for example Tartan tracks in sport stadiums. “The tracks are being beveled and a new cover is put on. You don’t have to rip out the whole cover anymore” explained manager Tobias Owegeser.

Since 1975, SMG has been dealing with the development of modern machinery for the installation of synthetic surfaces in the sports industry. SMG exports 90% of their business globally. Worldwide there are clients who trust in the trademark‚ “Made in Germany”. This applies for the care of artificial turf as well as for the renewal of Tartan tracks, which SMG is the world market leader. The assembled machines are being shipped to the USA in containers and ships.

In 1980 SMG added a new solution to maintain artificial lawn efficiently especially in countries with dryer climate conditions. Even though no irrigation is necessary, artificial lawn still needs to be cleaned regularly. “Water conservation is also important for environment protection”, adds Seaton. Hellas has been a client of SMG for over three decades and in his own words Seaton said he never gets disappointed. Hellas and SMG are looking to continue their 30 year plus business relationship for many years to come.
